If you’ve been looking for the NBA’s newest rivalry, look no further than the situation between Stephen A. Smith and former NAB All-Star Stephon Marbury.

For a while now, the two have been at odds, and it started back in 2009 when Stephen A. Smith once called out the former Knickerbocker for “eating gasoline like a bunch of cheeseburgers.”

“I’m not going to go off on Stephon Marbury,” said Smith. “But I will say that Stephon Marbury has had a problem with me since 2009 because we thought he was a bit bizarre when he was eating vaseline. Literally on video, like it was a bunch of cheeseburgers. Like gobbling vaseline, crying, later admitted he was depressed.”

Most recently, the two have exchanged some words regarding the Kyrie Irving situation. After missing over half the season due to his unvaccinated status, Stephen A. has taken frequent blows at the Nets point guard for his role in how Brooklyn’s season ended.

Earlier this week, Marbury stood up for Irving and went after Smith for his assault on him.

“I’m starting to think Stephen A.Smith thinks he’s a star for speaking the English language loud and obnoxious on TV,” said Marbury. “I truly believe he’s upset that he couldn’t play ball in front of 19,000 people every night, so he reverted towards targeting (bash) people who look like him who have true intentions on earth to be real and authentic towards helping people.”

On Wednesday, Marbury went after the ESPN analyst again, and this time warned of a Chris Rock type of scenario if he didn’t stop criticizing players.

For those who don’t know, Chris Rock is a world-renowned comedian who got slapped by Will Smith on stage at the Oscars. It went viral around the world and many people still frequently talk about it.

Stephen A. is unlikely to get caught up in a situation like that, but his words clearly rub a lot of people the wrong way.
