Zion Williamson was sidelined during the entire 2021/22 NBA season after he couldn’t recover from a foot injury. The New Orleans Pelicans’ young star was involved in many rumors during the season, with some people placing him outside of NOLA and suggesting the Knicks as the new team for him.

Well, it seems like fans in New York will have to wait to see Zion playing at the Madison Square Garden defending their colors. The 2019 No. 1 overall pick recently confirmed that he intends to re-sign with the Pelicans, shutting down any notion that he’ll leave the team once his rookie deal is up.

Talking with reporters today, Zion answered the big question, making it clear he’s committed to his squad despite all the rumors surfacing every day. He’s entering the final year of his rookie deal and it seems like he’s set to play in New Orleans for many years.

“Of course! I wouldn’t be able to sign it fast enough!” Williamson replied when asked if he intended to re-sign if offered an extension.

He looked in great spirits when saying that, showing a big smile and looking visibly excited. The Pelicans showed interesting things this campaign, making it to the playoffs and even winning two games against the all-powerful Phoenix Suns in the first round.

Zion could make $223 million in five years on a potential extension according to rumors, and that should be enough reason to be happy. Moreover, the Pelicans proved everybody wrong this campaign and became a threat to the rest of the West. When he comes back from injury, the team should be more than an 8th seed.

Williamson has only played 85 games during his first three seasons and everybody wants to see him playing and showing what he’s capable of doing on the court.
