“[Luka Doncic] is my pick for MVP next year. I feel like he’s going to be on a mission. He’s going to be in the best shape of his life. He’s going to spend all of the offseason proving Nico Harrison he made the biggest mistake of his life.”
This is far from a bold take, especially given what has transpired over the last 48 hours. The bombshell trade between the Lakers and the Mavericks already upset a lot of people, least of all Luka Doncic, who was taken aback by the decision. In the aftermath of the situation, it was revealed that Nico Harrison had lost faith in Luka Doncic as the face of the Dallas Mavericks.
However, the hysteria surrounding Doncic’s situation with the Mavericks only worsened in the lead-up to the game against the Lakers. With every negative story or hit piece they endorse against Luka Doncic, they are showing star players that they could be subjected to this kind of treatment should they also fall out with the franchise.
This might make their pursuit of Kevin Durant, whom they are reportedly interested in, very difficult, as he might assume that the Mavericks could subject him to such harsh treatment should he and the front office, or more specifically, Harrison, reach a disagreement or have a falling out.
