Luka Doncic will win the MVP award next season to prove Nico Harrison. At least that is what former Dallas Mavericks star Chandler Parsons believes. Speaking on Run It Back, Parsons explained how a motivated Luka Doncic can use the offseason to get in the best shape of his career and parlay that into his first MVP season with the Los Angeles Lakers.

“[Luka Doncic] is my pick for MVP next year. I feel like he’s going to be on a mission. He’s going to be in the best shape of his life. He’s going to spend all of the offseason proving Nico Harrison he made the biggest mistake of his life.”

This is far from a bold take, especially given what has transpired over the last 48 hours. The bombshell trade between the Lakers and the Mavericks already upset a lot of people, least of all Luka Doncic, who was taken aback by the decision. In the aftermath of the situation, it was revealed that Nico Harrison had lost faith in Luka Doncic as the face of the Dallas Mavericks.

However, the hysteria surrounding Doncic’s situation with the Mavericks only worsened in the lead-up to the game against the Lakers. Playing against the Mavericks, Doncic put up 19 points, 15 rebounds, 12 assists, three steals, and two blocks. However, it was what he did during and after the game that really caught the eye of all fans.

During the game, Doncic stared down the Mavericks bench on two separate occasions. After the game, Luka took the time to go and hug all his former teammates and assistant coaches, but notably snubbed Jason Kidd during any post-match greetings. Speaking after the game, Doncic seemingly gave a cold response when asked to talk about Nico Harrison.

However, it appears Nico Harrison has found his way to get revenge. And it’s a strategy he employed recently – going to the press. In a recent report, it was revealed that the Dallas Mavericks took issue with Luka Doncic’s off-the-court habits, namely his drinking and consumption of hookah.

Harrison had started the media mudslinging even before the game, leaking to the press that he didn’t want the Mavericks to be revolving around Luka Doncic anymore.

The Mavericks are not helping their own reputation with the way they have handled the press cycle in the aftermath of the trade. With every negative story or hit piece they endorse against Luka Doncic, they are showing star players that they could be subjected to this kind of treatment should they also fall out with the franchise.

This might make their pursuit of Kevin Durant, whom they are reportedly interested in, very difficult, as he might assume that the Mavericks could subject him to such harsh treatment should he and the front office, or more specifically, Harrison, reach a disagreement or have a falling out.
