Kevin Durant was asked by Fanatics to name his four best NBA jerseys in history. Starting out with an obvious answer, Durant named Michael Jordan‘s black Chicago Bulls jersey with pinstripes. Following this was Allen Iverson‘s blue Philadelphia 76ers jersey, with Vince Carter‘s purple Toronto Raptors jersey right after. And lastly, Durant gave a nod to himself with his blue Oklahoma City Thunder jersey.

“One. Pinstripes, black, Chicago Bulls 23 jersey. You remember that joint? I know y’all remember that joint. Two: Blue, alternate Allen Iverson, Philadelphia 76ers jersey. I wore that joint every Thursday when I was in seventh grade. That was my jersey. Purple, second Toronto Raptors jersey. Vince Carter, 15. Man, that 35 OKC. Legendary.”

Durant isn’t just a veteran of the NBA, but a longtime superfan of the Association. So for him to pick out some of the most iconic jerseys in the history of the sport should come as no surprise. The former MVP picking his own jersey at number four, especially one from his OKC days was certainly bold, but Durant is one of the greatest players of all time, so we can allow him to get away with that one.

There are some notable omissions from the list. Kobe Bryant‘s 2007 Lakers jersey, LeBron James‘ 2009 Cavaliers jersey, Stephen Curry‘s 2016 Warriors jersey, and Derrick Rose‘s white 2011 Chicago Bulls jersey are just a few that belong on that list this writer can think of at this time.

Of course, these discussions are bound to be subjective. But Durant’s list is about as close as you can get to an objective list, especially when it comes to names and the corresponding eras he is referring to. Players like Charles Barkley, Reggie Miller, and Patrick Ewing also have a strong case to be on said list.

The NBA has been around for nearly 80 years, and there are several jerseys that fans consider ironic. Each fan’s mileage for what they consider to be iconic may vary, and as such, trying to create a definitive list of the most iconic jerseys in NBA history is about as difficult and exhausting as picking a GOAT in the NBA.

The art of the jersey is something fans of the modern NBA are quite upset about. Many feel that their teams don’t put in the kind of effort that they used to when coming up with new jersey designs. Teams like the Brooklyn Nets and Indiana Pacers have been slammed for their recent jersey designs and collaborations, as fans feel they are straying away from the historic iconography that they should be embracing.

As far as jerseys go, Fadeaway World tried a unique experiment a while back, trying to create superteams based on jersey numbers. Some of the squads that were created are truly worth checking out, as you might be surprised to see how many great players all shared the same numbers.
