Stephen Curry showed out for ‘Shaq’s OGs’ on All-Star Sunday, leading his squad to win the new All-Star Tournament while being crowned the MVP. This was his second MVP crown in the All-Star Game after first winning it in 2022 for making 16 three-pointers in a 50-point performance.

With Curry’s second All-Star MVP in the bag, the Golden State Warriors point guard made NBA history by joining LeBron James, Michael Jordan, and Magic Johnson as the only players to have won two league MVPs, two All-Star MVPs, and one Finals MVP.

LeBron James is Curry’s contemporary and was named to the All-Star Game but decided to sit out to heal an ankle injury ahead of the final stretch of the season. Everyone knows about LeBron winning four MVPs and four Finals MVPs, but he was also the All-Star Game MVP in 2006, 2008, and 2018.

Magic Johnson is the player many believe Curry is chasing for the title of greatest point guard in NBA history. Magic won three Finals MVPs in his five title wins, also winning league MVP three times. He was All-Star Game MVP in 1990 and 1992.

Michael Jordan is arguably the most accomplished NBA player of all time, winning six championships and six Finals MVPs alongside five regular-season MVP trophies. He was a three-time All-Star MVP, taking home MVP honors in 1988, 1996, and 1998.

Curry is a four-time champion but the only one amongst these players to not have won Finals MVP multiple times. Otherwise, this is a pretty random historical category that the Warriors have proclaimed Steph has joined as he could easily be excluded if the MVP requirement was upped to three. Similarly, players like Kobe Bryant could be added if that same MVP requirement was reduced to three.

Nonetheless, it was a great performance by Curry who’s further establishing himself as one of the greatest players in league history. He put up 12 points (4-8 FG) to secure his second All-Star MVP, awarded to him in front of his home fans in the Chase Center.

Stephen Curry Liked The New All-Star Format

Curry was happy to have seen the All-Star game play out the way it did, complimenting the new format after the game. He did so on live TV to Draymond Green, who was as vocal against this format, as many others.

“I really felt like the All-Star game just needed a fresh look. You can always reassess, and continue making decisions on what’s in the best interests of the fans, which is what the whole weekend is about. I think it worked out perfectly. The OGs ran on the court, reigned supreme, and we’ll see what we do next year.”

Curry might have had some fun on the court but it seemed this format bothered many fans and players. Nobody could enjoy the actual action on the court because the NBA did way too much outside the game through Kevin Hart, Mr. Beast, and the ‘Inside the NBA’ crew.

His input in instituting a tournament could have worked better if the attention had been on the basketball, as we did see increased competitiveness from years past in this game.
