The Sacramento Kings have recently made a win-now move to acquire Domantas Sabonis from the Indiana Pacers. It is clear that the franchise is looking to compete whether it is this year or the next.

Perhaps another win-now trade could help bolster their roster. A frequently mentioned player in trade rumors is Jerami Grant. He has most recently been linked to the Portland Trail Blazers, but perhaps the Sacramento Kings could swing a deal for him, and he could help the Kings improve on both ends of the floor. Here is the potential trade scenario.

Sacramento Kings Receive: Jerami Grant

Detroit Pistons Receive: Marvin Bagley, Terence Davis, 2022 first-round pick (SAC), 2024 first-round pick (SAC)

Sacramento Kings Get A Two-Way Forward To Add To Their Core

Jerami Grant is a two-way forward who can provide scoring and defense for any roster. He is currently averaging 19.1 PPG, 4.5 RPG, and 2.5 APG. While he is shooting inefficiently from the field, perhaps that could change on a team with more offensive threats than the Detroit Pistons.

On the Sacramento Kings, Jerami Grant would be joining up with De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. There is no doubt that this team would be competing for the play-in tournament, or potentially a lower-tier playoff seed next season. Jerami Grant would be a difference-maker for the Sacramento Kings, and he can definitely help them win more games. In particular, having his defense would help the squad, as De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis aren’t viewed as the best defenders.

With this trade, the Sacramento Kings would be able to add a talented player to the roster, without giving up any core pieces. Solid role players like Harrison Barnes and Davion Mitchell would be excluded from the deal. Perhaps this trade would help them eventually make the playoffs, and break their postseason drought.

Pistons Take A Chance On Two Prospects And Get Draft Compensation

The Detroit Pistons would get two young players from the Sacramento Kings in this scenario, as well as draft picks for their ongoing rebuild. This is definitely a package that allows them to look towards the future.

Marvin Bagley was the No. 2 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. While his career hasn’t precisely gotten off to the fastest start, he still averaged 14.1 PPG and 7.4 RPG last season for the Sacramento Kings, while shooting 34.3% from beyond the arc. He can definitely be a productive player in the future, and he would have the minutes to develop on the Detroit Pistons. While he’s not likely to be a superstar going forwards, he could still develop into a very solid big man.

Terence Davis is a 24-year-old guard, who was utilized as the bench shooting guard for the Sacramento Kings. A former All-Rookie selection, Davis is a guard that can drive to the rim and defend well on the perimeter. He could still develop into a capable starting guard in the future, and with Killian Hayes’ struggles, perhaps it’d be best to try a new guard in the backcourt with Cade Cunningham.

The draft compensation would obviously be the next portion of the trade package, and two first-round picks should be enough to get the deal done. Overall, this is a solid trade for the Pistons, as it helps them along with building around Cade Cunningham.
