Gary Payton, The Glove, was as smooth an operator as any NBA court ever saw. His defense on the perimeter was legendary and he was key to leading his Seattle Supersonics to the NBA Finals in 1996 where they fell just short against a returning Michael Jordan. Payton was a beast, he remains the only point guard to have won Defensive Player of the Year while also marshaling the offense.

And it’s not just on the basketball court that Payton was slick, and it landed him in some hot water off the court. Speaking in an interview with DJ Vlad on YouTube, GP spoke about the time he got two women pregnant at the same time. He explained exactly how it happened and suggested that the experience taught him not to do in romantic situations.

“When I was dating Gary II’s mom who I met in high school, and I got into the NBA and I had a relationship with another lady. It so happened that they both had their kids in the same year.”

“They both wanted to name them Gary,” GP continued. “So I said, ‘okay, cool. You can name one Gary Jr., one Gary II.’ It was one of them things that worked out for me; I’m happy for that. I’ve got two sons named after me, we can keep my name going on, so that’s all that I was talking about. Just keep my name going on.”

“Very messed up,” Payton said. “It’s very messed up. And that’s why, after that, I never messed up again with anything like that because it’s not fair to them. And I told my ex-wife during the speech in the Hall of Fame that she stuck through a lot of stuff with me. “

Gary Payton II has finally found a place for himself in the league, shining as a role player with the Golden State Warriors as a role player this season. He is averaging 7.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 16.6 minutes every game. His brother Gary Jr. prefers to stay away from the spotlight. In any case, while it seems to have worked out well for Payton, having kids with two women at the same time is generally a recipe for some serious issues.
