Dirk Nowitzki has recently had his jersey retired by the Dallas Mavericks, and there is no doubt that he is the greatest player to ever suit up for that franchise. He has made his mark on NBA and Mavericks history.

During his jersey retirement speech, Dirk Nowitzki gave a speech where he thanked governor Mark Cuban and the fans for supporting him. It is clear that Nowitzki was grateful to be a part of the Mavericks franchise.

The first guy I want to thank for the Mavericks is a guy that had season tickets right by the Mavs bench when I first got here… he always believed in me, and he always supported me on and off the floor. He was super competitive, and we developed a great relationship. He even came to my bachelor party… what I appreciate most about the guy is his huge hear, and he’s been super loyal to me. You know I’m talking about Mark. Mark you’re known as a tough businessman, but I got to know a whole lot of different sides. I’ll always remember in 2010, I was a free agent and I come to your house. We share stories. We both got emotional. We decided to extend a couple more years, and we ended up winning a championship in year one. Thanks Mark, for everything you’ve done for me and my family, and I’ll always be grateful.

I forgot one more, very important, incredibly important pillar. That pillar always gave me a warm welcome when I got here. This pillar always wanted me to succeed. They always pushed me, gave me the strength to work hard and motivated me. But what I appreciated most was that this pillar supported me during the tough tough playoff times and playoff losses… That pillar is you, that is the fans.

There’s no question that this was an extremely emotional time for Dirk Nowitzki, as it would be for anyone. He has dedicated a huge part of his life to being the superstar for the Dallas Mavericks, and this is certainly a just way to commemorate that.

The Dallas Mavericks are in good hands with Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis present. Dirk Nowitzki has recently claimed that we haven’t seen the current Mavericks at their best, and perhaps they’ll eventually reach the heights that he did with the team.
