Zion Williamson Explained Why Thanos Should Have Won In Avengers Endgame: “Thanos Was Supposed To Win. They Just Had To Give Y’all A Happy Ending.”

The Marvel superhero movies are some of the most popular in the world. And this week, there is a lot of excitement for the latest installment of this series, with the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home. While these superheroes are some of the most popular in the world, one NBA player doesn’t think they should have won in Avengers: Endgame.

Zion Williamson spoke in 2019 about the movie. When asked who his favorite Avenger was, Williamson scoffed and said that he was a fan of Thanos instead.

Zion then explained that Thanos was more powerful than everyone, and the superheroes (specifically Captain America) had to use every trick in the book to beat Thanos, that too without him wielding the power of the Infinity Stones or the Infinity Gauntlet.

“Avenger?! You know I’m already rocking with Thanos over here (snaps finger). I’m going to be honest. Thanos was supposed to win and I’m going to tell you why. When you think of Captain America, you think red, white, and blue and that Shield. Tell me why Captain America did Thor’s technique and pulled the hammer. What is that? Thanos was about to kill Thor, and Captain America is able to hold Thor’s hammer that nobody else can hold? Are we really doing that? Thanos took on 6 people…Maybe 6, 7, 5… without the Infinity Stones. And he still almost won. Thanos was supposed to win. They just had to give y’all a happy ending.”

While there is some truth in what Zion is saying, there is some context to be had. Zion’s biggest objection was with Captain America lifting Thor’s hammer. But the hammer can be lifted by anyone who is deemed worthy, and Captain America’s worthiness was hinted at a few movies before Endgame.

Zion is clearly a huge Thanos fan, even getting a customized Thanos chain last year. Perhaps Thanos feels like a relatable character for Zion, given that he was compared to Thanos when entering the NBA. Both were physically imposing figures that would pose an incredible threat to those going against him.
