A.D. On Joining Shaq In Lakers History: “This Is The Moment I’ve Been Waiting For My Entire Career.”

2 Min Read

Anthony Davis was huge in L.A.’s Game 1 victory tonight, pouring in 34 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks in the 116-98 blowout.

In fact, his output tonight was enough to put him third in Lakers history for most points scored in a Finals debut, joining Shaq, George Mikan, and Elgin Baylor in the top four.

“I felt good,” Davis said when asked how it felt to join such elite company. “My first NBA Finals game, obviously the nerves were there, a little nervous. But when the ball is topped up, we just go out there and play basketball. I tried to do that tonight, I got some good looks early, got to the free-throw line a lot, was able to calm down and see the ball go through the net, which opened up the jump shot and also opened up the lane for me.

So I just try to go out there and be comfortable knowing that this is the moment I’ve been waiting for my entire career and now I’m here so I have to maximize the opportunity because it doesn’t come around too often.”

Obviously, Davis has lived up the challenge of being a Laker. On the NBA’s biggest stage, he has risen to the occasion and is fueling his team’s push for the title.

Just three wins away now from the ultimate prize, the job is almost finished. But, until then, you can expect AD, LeBron, and the rest of the crew to continue to be locked in on both ends of the floor.
