NBA commissioner Adam Silver explained how Charlotte Hornets star Miles Bridges and now-Houston Rockets head coach Ime Udoka could return for the 2023-24 season.

While Miles, along with his team and the league, reached a “mutual agreement to sit out last season after he was convicted of a felony of domestic violence, Udoka was suspended by the Boston Celtics and has not coached since the last season.

“The process (with Bridges) was that we worked with his representatives and the players association that he sat out the entire season,” Silver said, per CBS Sports.

And so we felt, on the balance, that because he had sat out an entire season and not been paid for an entire season, we thought in fairness that would give him partial credit, I think, for having sat out that season.”

According to Silver, the NBA looked at Bridges’ missed season as a punishment as he lost out on what he called “millions of dollars.” At the time of writing, the forward is eligible for a new contract this summer but will still miss the first 10 games of the new season.

Speaking about the Udoka situation, Silver said: “We had access to the investigation by the Celtics. They decided that he should be suspended for a year. We reviewed that and determined it was fair under those circumstances. And then when other teams — and it wasn’t just the Rockets — asked us if he would be able to coach next season, we said he would be.”

Now, the league will see an immensely-talented player, and a tactically astute coach finally take the floor.

Miles Bridges’ Future With The Hornets Is Uncertain, The Rockets Get A Boost With Udoka

Earlier, speculative mills churned that Bridges was trying to get back with the Hornets, however, the franchise denied those rumors. This makes his future with the side unclear.

Meanwhile, Houston will hope that they can reclaim their glory days with Ime Udoka in their ranks. It appears that he is the first of the many moves the side will be making over the course of the summer. With rumors of a James Harden exit, and Jaylen Brown reuniting with Udoka, there’s a lot of noise coming out from the Rockets camp.
