Kyrie Irving has long been regarded as one of the best dribblers in NBA history, along with the likes of Allen Iverson. Iverson has ceded that position to Kyrie, calling him the greatest ball-handler in basketball history during a recent appearance on ‘The Big Podcast’ with Shaquille O’Neal.

“[Kyrie Irving] is the best. Steph [Curry] handle is crazy. Steph, his jumper gets you over. He [crosses] half-court and can let it go. (Kyrie) has the best handles ever. Kyrie will have you beat and then bring it back and play with it, he toys with people. He can still just go, but if he feels like playing with you.”

Kyrie Irving is averaging 25.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists this season. His dribble package has still been on display whenever he is healthy and available, making the Mavericks one of the most dangerous offensive teams in the NBA. Along with his dribbling skills, Kyrie is also one of the most gifted finishers at the rim, recently converting a layup over an outstretched Victor Wembanyama

Iverson isn’t alone in his belief that Irving is the greatest ball-handler in history,. Former championship teammate LeBron James has also bestowed that title upon Irving before, making it clear that the greats recognize Kyrie’s other-worldly talent with the ball in his hands.

Kyrie Irving Called Himself The King Of Handles

Before the start of the 2023-24 season, Irving candidly discussed his place amongst the greatest ball-handlers in NBA history. He proudly proclaimed himself the king of handles in the NBA, waiting to see another talent replicate the stuff he’s done with the ball in his hands.

“I would say that I am the king of handles right now,” Irving said. “For the time being until somebody’s better than me and does some even some spectacular stuff, more exciting stuff, but you’re looking at him. I feel like I have the best handles and also the best creativity out there.”

Even with Kyrie aging, it seems his handles will never alienate him. Even though his speed with the ball isn’t what it used to be, there is no other player who can figure out so many angles with the ball in his hand to attack defenses. Players have been praising Kyrie’s handling ability since he came into the league. As he enters the latter half of his career, it seems he’s already solidified his status.

Irving will want to be remembered for more than just his dribbling and finishing ability. He wants to leave a legacy as one of the best point guards in NBA history. He’s already a champion, earning that achievement early in his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He’ll hope to add another ring before the end of his playing days, hoping he can earn it on the Mavericks alongside the prodigious Luka Doncic.
