  • Andre Iguodala got real on Jordan Poole’s situation with the Warriors
  • Poole wanted more freedom on the court
  • The shooting guard didn’t want to sacrifice for the team

The Golden State Warriors moved guard Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards this summer, in a trade that brought them back veteran Chris Paul. It was clear that Poole didn’t have the best year with the Warriors, and a separation was likely the best move for both parties.

Recently, forward Andre Iguodala explained why Jordan Poole was so frustrated with the Golden State Warriors. Iguodala noted that Poole wanted more freedom on the court like the veterans on the squad.

“Jordan was like, ‘Why can’t I go out and be free like them?’ Yeah, he doesn’t have four rings, he has one. But he won us a game in the finals. He’s coming back like, ‘No, I’ve shown y’all that, give me some freedom. And I’m second on the team in scoring. So, why should I be the guy that has to dial back?’”

It is easy to see why Jordan Poole did not want to take a step back. He was clearly one of the best Warriors players during their 2022 championship run, and it is clear that he wanted to keep his momentum going. However, the Warriors are a team that thrives on players buying into their roles, which is ultimately why he and the team both had an up-and-down season in 2023. Now though, Jordan Poole is going to be on the Washington Wizards, a team where he will have much more freedom.

Last season with the Golden State Warriors, Jordan Poole averaged 20.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. It will be interesting to see how he does as a focal point with the Wizards, and we’ll see what happens in the future.

Andre Iguodala Told Jordan Poole He Needs To Mature

There is no doubt that Jordan Poole will be in a new environment with the Washington Wizards. Though that will obviously come with more freedom, being the face of a team is also a huge responsibility. In fact, Andre Iguodala warned Jordan Poole, noting that the guard needs to grow up now and that the Warriors aren’t the same as the Wizards.

“I talked to him to this day. I said, Listen, you got to grow up now. You got your own team. It comes with some responsibility. And you’ve been in environments where it’s really controlled.”

It remains to be seen how well Jordan Poole will play on the Washington Wizards. He needs to step up for the franchise, and the team is likely betting on him to become a star. Poole certainly has the talent to be great, and the Wizards could end up aiding his development greatly.

Klay Thompson Believes Jordan Poole Will Be An All-Star Player

There is no doubt that many people have high expectations for Jordan Poole. One of them is his former teammate Klay Thompson, with Thompson stating that Poole is like him and Stephen Curry’s younger brother, noting that Poole is a future All-Star as well.

“And I know he’s going to do great things in Washington and it felt good seeing him last week. It was weird seeing him in Wizards gear, but that’s like Steph and I’s little bro. He got All-Star potential… Washington got a good one. Future All-Star for sure.”

Jordan Poole could definitely become an All-Star in the future, and the best way to do so is a combination of individual production and team winning. Hopefully, we see Wade do well in both categories going forward.
