With around a month until February’s trade deadline, the Lakers were looking for reassurance that their franchise superstar, Anthony Davis, would be sticking around with the franchise long-term.
Despite having requested a trade there, he has yet to make any long-term commitment to the franchise. And, according to a report by Chris Haynes, he refused to accept the contract extension offered to him by the Lakers.

Davis’ intent to enter 2020 free-agency shouldn’t be news to anyone. Since the season began, the star forward has made his intentions clear. Long-term, the decision makes sense.
He can make more money and an additional year by signing a deal in the summer as opposed to an extension right now. he will be granted more long-term stability just by waiting a few months.
Still, it doesn’t guarantee anything. If things go sour in Los Angeles, Davis could opt to consider other teams with cap space. While unlikely, don’t rule anything out this summer when it comes to Davis. At the very least, we know he will want nothing short of the biggest payday possible.
