Jerry West On Luka Doncic: “He’ll Be The Best Player That Dallas Has Ever Had.”

2 Min Read

Selected 3rd in the 2018 Draft, it’s fair to say that Slovenian star Luka Doncic had a lot of expectations coming into the NBA.

A season and a half later, and it’s clear that he has far surpassed those expectations. In just his second season, he is proving himself to be a generational talent, averaging 29.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 8.9 assists on 46% shooting. Best of all, he has lead the Mavericks to a 23-13 record in the West, good enough for 6th in the Conference.

With all of that being fact, NBA legend (and current Clippers front-office executive) claims that Doncic will end up as the greatest to ever wear the jersey by the time it’s all said and done.

“I’ve been around a long time, and I’ve seen a lot of special players.. There’s a difference between All-Stars & superstars. A superstar is different, and that’s what he is.. He’ll be the best player that Dallas has ever had. I have great respect for Nowitzki, but Dirk is not him.”

To say Luka is better than Dirk, in just his second season, is a bold statement. But one we can’t entirely rule out. Nowitzki never posted numbers like Luka is now, not at any point in his career. Dirk was always exceptional at scoring and leading.

Luka, though, seems to be much more than that. While there will be plenty of time to make his case later, he is already on an unbelievable tear — and folks are starting to take notice.
