Austin Rivers could have been a part of the 2023 NBA Finals, but his stint with the Denver Nuggets ended after last season.

He left the Nuggets and signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves and now is watching the Finals at home. The veteran guard admitted on his podcast that he’s salty watching the Nuggets play in the Finals, only saying that he’s happy for two of his former teammates.

“It bothers me that they are in the Finals, yes,” Rivers said. “It bothers me that I didn’t get to play with Jamal. It bothers me that like everyone now is like, ‘Oh, they have this complete roster.’ No they f*****g don’t. They have seven guys that they play.

“They don’t even play a full roster. They’re not even playing a full team right now. … I’m bitter. I’m salty. I am all of that in between. I don’t like … the only reason that I’m happy is because I’m good friends with Aaron Gordon and Michael Porter Jr, and I’m happy that they are in the Finals.”

Rivers always keeps it real on and off the court, and this time he went in while explaining his feelings about his former team. He was used as a replacement for Jamal Murray in the two seasons he spent in Denver before taking his talents to Minnesota.

The Denver Nuggets Have Become The Best Team In The NBA

These seasons were the preview of what was coming for the Nuggets. This season, they played at a great level, with Jamal Murray taking his game to the next level. Nikola Jokic had another MVP-caliber season and even though he didn’t win the award, he took it to the next level once the playoffs arrived.

They’re now three wins away from winning the NBA championship and Rivers isn’t happy with that situation. He clashed with the Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs, so he can say he had a role in this championship run.
