Bill Simmons Reveals If Robert Sarver Hadn’t Agreed To Sell The Phoenix Suns, Adam Silver Would Have Used Michael Jordan To Serve The ‘Death Blow’ To Sarver

Michael Jordan was the final card that NBA commissioner Adam Silver saved for forcing Robert Sarver to sell the Phoenix Suns as per Bill Simmons.

After being stuck in mediocrity for a while, the Phoenix Suns are finally making some progress in the NBA. Over the last two seasons, the Suns have become one of the best teams in the league.

The credit for this turnaround goes to the rise of Devin Booker. Booker took the leap and helped the Suns win a lot more games. But the most important acquisition for the team was NBA veteran Chris Paul.

Anyway, the Suns are currently in the headlines but for all the wrong reasons. Robert Sarver, the owner of the Phoenix Suns, was suspended due to misconduct in the workplace. As a result, he has now been forced by the NBA to sell the franchise.

With the Suns now on the market, NBA analyst Bill Simmons believes the franchise has now entered the list of the most incredible franchises in the NBA.

Michael Jordan Was The Final Trick Under Adam Silver’s Sleeve

Sarver agreed to sell the Suns, which is in the best interest of everyone around the league. After all, players like LeBron James and Chris Paul publicly called him out. However, had Sarver denied selling the team, NBA analyst Bill Simmons believes Adam Silver would have used Michael Jordan as the final trick.

(Starts at 15:30):

“What I heard was there was one last piece, a card that the league was gonna play, where MJ was gonna be the last piece could come out and implore Sarver to sell. And that would have been a death blow for him and hugely embarrassing for a bunch of different reasons. That never happened, but it was gonna happen. And I think once Sarver knew that Jordan was looming, after LeBron, after Chris Paul, after some of the other people, the minority owner then that was it.”

Michael Jordan may have retired from the league a long time ago, but there’s still a lot of weight to MJ’s word. On top of that, Jordan is one of the owners of the Charlotte Hornets as well.

So keeping all that in mind, it would have been catastrophic for Sarver if Mike criticized him in public. As a result, as per Simmons, Sarver simply decided to sell the franchise before things got out of hand.
