For the entirety of his NBA career so far, Bradley Beal has only played for one team. Despite some early success during the John Wall years, the Wizards never got very far with Beal in the lineup and now, for the first time, he’ll get the chance to play for a franchise with legitimate title aspirations.
During his introductory press conference on Thursday, the veteran guard spoke honestly about his new situation and explained why he chose the Suns over other teams.
“I think one of the things we take for granted as players is who’s around you, the players around you, and what they bring to the table every single day. It’s not easy to win in this league, and I think that’s where a lot of people get misconstrued. It doesn’t matter how much talent you have, you still have to work and put in the work and get the job done. I’m super ecstatic that every single day I have a chance to play in a meaningful game. That’s one of the biggest factors that impacted me coming here.”

Beal, a 3x All-Star, is widely recognized as one of the league’s best long-distance shooters, and he made a living in D.C. as their go-to offensive scorer. Obviously, on the Suns, his role will be reduced, playing alongside Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. Instead of being a facilitator and carrying an offense by himself, he’ll be used in a more supportive role to help elevate his teammates and add another scoring threat to the Suns’ star-studded lineup.
Will The Suns Land Kyrie Irving?
Wildly, Bradley Beal might be only a taste of what’s to come for the Suns. While their options for roster construction are limited, Kyrie Irving will meet with their leadership and it has sparked some crazy rumors.
“Star point guard Kyrie Irving is expected to meet with the Phoenix Suns along with the Dallas Mavericks and possibly other teams when NBA free agency begins on June 30,” wrote Chris Haynes. “The Houston Rockets could seek a meeting as well, according to sources.”
The Suns are obviously not messing around in their quest to capture a championship, and team owner Mat Ishbia is willing to break the bank to make it happen.
For Beal, this is uncharted waters for him. For perhaps the first time in his career, he’ll be facing real pressure to live up to expectations and help carry his team to a deep playoff run.
