Kyrie Irving’s trade request has shaken up the NBA trade market and things are starting to get wild with 5 days to go until the deadline.
As teams across the league assess their situation and contemplate what the fallout in Brooklyn might mean for their own title odds, the Nets are going to do whatever they can to increase their leverage and bring back the best package possible.
As a team always looking to improve, the Miami Heat have naturally inserted themselves in the Irvings sweepstakes and are seen as a major contender if they are willing to pay the price.
According to Hoops Hype’s Michael Scotto, the Nets would be looking for one of the Heat’s prized big three (probably Herro) in exchange for Uncle Drew.
The Nets would be interested in Bam Adebayo, Jimmy Butler, or Tyler Herro coming to Brooklyn in a potential Irving trade. Miami would prefer to move off Kyle Lowry, who’s owed $29.7 million next season.
While Pat Riley has never shied away from a talented but controversial player in the past, it’s hard to logistically see how Miami can acquire Irving.

While Herro is a downgrade in talent from Irving, he’d probably be the most likely name on the move in this scenario and he’d be a solid return for the Nets. Unfortunately, lacking any kind of motive, the Nets may not find a trade they like at all.
Meanwhile, Irving is the kind of point guard Miami has been searching for for years, and it’s who they they they had in Kyle Lowry. But amidst Lowry’s struggles this season, it makes sense for the Heat to take a hard look at Irving, even if it means potentially giving up Herro.
Heat Have Big Concern About Adding Kyrie Irving
On the court, Kyrie’s game cannot be questioned. He’s averaging 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game on 48.5% shooting this season. Off the court, however, Irving’s erratic behavior and questionable actions are making the Hear think twice about picking him up.
“I continue to hear there’s a lot of discomfort at high levels of the Heat organization about the prospect of dealing with Kyrie Irving every day, ” said NBA Radio host Ethan J. Skolnik.
The Heat are not alone in their hesitation to sign Kyrie, which really makes you wonder if the Nets were right to lowball their offer. With so few options moving forward, Kyrie’s best choice may be to finish out this season in Brooklyn and work something out in the summer.
But there’s no going back now and Brooklyn’s front office will have some really tough decisions to make over the next few days that will likely impact the entire NBA world.
