  • Wood mentioned that Davis is his favorite player to watch
  • The duo should work well with one another

The latest player that the Los Angeles Lakers added is big man Christian Wood. Though the big man is viewed as controversial among fans and analysts, the talent level with him is absolutely there.

There have been some rumors about the Los Angeles Lakers potentially running lineups that feature both Christian Wood and Anthony Davis. Wood recently gave his take on the potential partnership, noting that Davis was his “favorite player to watch”.

“Whatever works. Whatever teams needs, I’m here to do. I think me and him together will be a crazy pairing. I mentioned a bunch of times before Anthony Davis has been my favorite player to watch. He’s always been my favorite player to watch. A guy I’ve studied and know his game, I think we have a lot of similarities so I think it’ll be great.”

There is no doubt that Christian Wood and Anthony Davis could form a great frontcourt partnership with Anthony Davis. Wood has the ability to space the floor, so offensively, he wouldn’t necessarily hamper Davis. Meanwhile, Davis could help cover for Wood’s weaknesses defensively.

This past season, Christian Wood averaged 16.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game for the Los Angeles Lakers, while shooting 37.6% from 3PT range. There’s no doubt that his production is far better than what a veteran minimum player typically provides, and we’ll see how he does for the Los Angeles Lakers this season.

Darvin Ham Wanted Christian Wood On The Los Angeles Lakers

There is no doubt that Christian Wood was heavily targeted by the Los Angeles Lakers throughout the free agency process. In fact, recently, Christian Wood revealed that Darvin Ham called him every day in free agency.

“He (Darvin Ham) called me every day in free agency, I can say that now,” Wood said. “Believe it or not, we have a good relationship and I think that was a really big thing for me…. Just having that communication with the coach, where you can just talk, personable. He’s a player’s coach as well, so just having that on my side is great.”

It remains to be seen how well Christian Wood will fit with the Los Angeles Lakers. He is a low-risk, high-reward signing for the team, and though there are some concerns, he clearly has Darvin Ham’s backing.

Christian Wood Will Be A Backup Big Man For The Los Angeles Lakers

Previously, we saw Christian Wood’s likely role with the Lakers revealed by NBA insider Jovan Buha. Wood will be the backup big man behind Anthony Davis, but also slot into some two-big lineups.

“The early expectation is that Wood will come off the bench with Rui Hachimura the likely frontcourt starter next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis, according to team sources. At a minimum, Wood will be the primary backup center behind Davis while occasionally teaming with him in two-big lineups. He should average around 20 minutes per game when everyone is healthy.”

Hopefully, we see Christian Wood make an impact for the Los Angeles Lakers despite the limited minutes that he is likely to play. Wood could definitely win the Sixth Man of the Year award if he plays well off the bench, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
