CJ McCollum Reveals He Wanted To Join The Pelicans Because Of Brandon Ingram: “Have You Seen BI Lately?”

Brandon Ingram is a star player for the New Orleans Pelicans. While he was not selected for the 2022 NBA All-Star game, he is having an elite season. Ingram is currently averaging 22.9 PPG, 5.8 RPG, and 5.5 APG. Most notably, his playmaking has developed with his APG at a career-high.

The New Orleans Pelicans are currently 22-32 after starting their season 1-12. They have definitely bounced back from a tough beginning to the season, and have recently made a win-now trade by trading for CJ McCollum.

When speaking to the media recently, CJ McCollum revealed that he was involved in the trade process, and added that he wanted to come to the New Orleans Pelicans due to their young talent, in particular Brandon Ingram.

CJ McCollum said he was involved in the process when Portland moved him. Asked why he was OK with New Orleans, he said, “Young talent. You seen BI lately?”

There is no doubt that Brandon Ingram has been on a tear. He has led the New Orleans Pelicans to the 10th seed in the Western Conference, and with CJ McCollum’s addition, they could potentially move even further up in the standings.

Another wrinkle to this is the potential return of Zion Williamson. While Zion Williamson has not yet returned from his foot injury, if he were to return, the Pelicans could potentially make some noise in the play-in tournament. He is still one of the brightest young talents in the league when he’s healthy, and there’s no question that Zion Williamson can be a difference-maker for the team.

Overall, it seems as though things are looking up in New Orleans. The Pelicans have some solid young players like Herb Jones and Jaxson Hayes, who are developing alongside CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram. Perhaps we’ll see them make the playoffs next season.
