With the 2022 NBA season officially over now, teams are ready to look toward next season. In Minnesota, even after reaching a huge milestone in this campaign, changes could be coming in the backcourt if the situation remains the same.
In fact, according to Dane Moore, a D’Angelo Russell trade is almost inevitable at this point based on where things stand now.
Also because the D’lo situation cannot sustain the status quo for very long. You are going to have a decision whether you want D’lo gone now, whether you want him gone in a year from now, or if you want him gone in February because D’lo isn’t gonna stick around without a sizeable extension.
Russell, 26, is a 1x All-Star point guard who can’t seem to find his NBA home. After stints in L.A., Brooklyn, Golden State, and Minnesota, it looks like he’ll be on the move again before next February.
According to multiple reports, the Wolves have already been shopping Russell on the trade market.
D’Angelo Russell is being shopped around, so it makes sense for the Timberwolves to target a shot-creator with this selection. TyTy and Karl-Anthony Towns could make for a lethal pick-and-roll pairing, and with Anthony Edwards resembling a superstar in the playoffs (and in Hustle) Minnesota would be equipped with a dynamic offense. Whatever Russell would return in a trade could only bolster their roster even more.
Even as uncertainty clouds the future, the Timberwolves have to be feeling good about where they are headed as a team.
With Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards, they have a core that can roll with for at least the next five years, and it’s sure to bring in some success.
For now, Russell’s role in the long-term plan is questionable, at best, but his path will be made clear once the offseason period truly begins next month.
