Danny Green Still Hasn’t Received His 2019 Raptors Championship Ring

Danny Green is a 3-time NBA champion with 3 different organizations. Green won his first ring with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014, before adding another with Toronto in 2019 and making it 3 with the Lakers in 2020.

Green is an excellent 3-and-D guy, one of the elite role players in the NBA and he currently plies his trade in Philadelphia with the Sixers. However, he currently only possesses two of his rings as he never received one of them.

After leaving the Raptors immediately following their 2019 win, Green wasn’t present in the stadium for the ring ceremony during the 2019-2020 season. He did, however, state his desire to receive it only in front of the Toronto fans.

A wrench was thrown into those plans when the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020 and basketball recommenced in the Bubble. Green won another ring that season, but was still without his older one.

Green then moved to Philadelphia 76ers and was all set to receive it when they played in the Toronto the next season. However, the Raptors famously played the 2020-21 season in Tampa instead, which led to another opportunity lost.

Tuesday presented Green’s latest chance to finally lay claim to his ring in front of the Toronto fans but he missed the Sixers-Raptors clash through injury. It has now been over a year and a half since the day Toronto clinched their maiden Championship.

Green will have another chance in a few months time to finally collect his hard-earned ring. The Sixers play in Toronto on April 7th, 2022 at 7:30 pm, a little over 3 months from now.

It’s likely to be a bit of an awkward occasion considering that the NBA has crowned 2 champions since the Raptors won their title. However, for Green and the fans that waited so long for their Championship, it will be a night to remember the greatest memory in the franchise’s history.
