The Chicago Bulls had finally found a solution to their struggles in the Eastern Conference by signing DeMar DeRozan last offseason and giving Zach LaVine a genuine co-star. In addition, the team signed Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso as well, while having traded for former All-Star Nikola Vucevic in February 2021.

This core managed a playoff appearance last year even without Lonzo Ball but has been struggling this year. Ball is still hurt, Vucevic hasn’t lived up to the promise he brought, and the relationship between Zach LaVine and the team is close to breaking down.

Given Chicago has traded their pick this year to the Orlando Magic (top-4 protected), many anticipate the Bulls will tank and trade players like LaVine and DeRozan. However, DeMar seems to disagree, posting a video from ‘Training Day’ where Denzel Washington says the news is for entertainment.

It seems LaVine is definitely angling toward a trade more than DeRozan is, with reports of LaVine wanting to go with the Lakers and the Bulls’ owner wanting to ensure that doesn’t happen

Will DeMar DeRozan Remain With The Chicago Bulls This Season?

There’s no reason for the Bulls to tank, as it can backfire badly for them. If their pick falls out of the top 4 of the draft, it will convey to the Magic who will probably get two lottery picks in one of the most stacked draft classes in recent memory. This will be especially bad given the Magic drafted Franz Wagner with a pick that came from the Bulls.

The Bulls will likely keep DeRozan on even if they move LaVine on for locker-room reasons. They’ll let DeMar play out the season and then possibly trade him next summer as he will be in the final year of his contract. The Bulls are likely to push for contention still and take a call on the roster next season when they have control over their pick.
