- Devin Booker and Kevin Durant are hoping to lead the Phoenix Suns to championship glory together next season
- Devin Booker revealed he has been a fan of Kevin Durant since childhood
- The shooting guard said he had a fathead of Durant in his room and that he would go to sleep looking at it every night
Devin Booker and Kevin Durant are teammates on the Phoenix Suns going into the 2023-24 season and big things are expected from them.
After spending his early years in Phoenix without star teammates, Devin Booker now has Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal alongside him. And turns out it’s something of a dream come true for him.
Speaking to GQ after the launch of his signature shoe, Book 1, Booker explained how big a fan of Durant he was growing up. He said, “It’s hard to put into words. A guy I have a great deal of respect for, and always have.
“I don’t know if this is public information, but I used to have a Fathead of him in my room. I used to go to sleep looking at KD every night on my wall. Now we’re teammates.”
Booker also recounted some other instances, “I also have a tweet from 2011 or 2012 where I said KD is my favorite player, so all just real full-circle moments. I take it in and embrace it. It’s something 20 or 25 years ago I would have thought was crazy as hell.”
Kevin Durant came into the NBA in 2007, and he was already an All-Star by 2010. Devin Booker was 14 when Kevin Durant won his first scoring title, so it makes sense that he was a huge fan of his now-teammate.
Devin Booker Addressed What He’s Looking Forward To The Most Next Season
The Phoenix Suns have a stacked 2023-24 starting lineup. Devin Booker has Kevin Durant alongside him, as well as Bradley Beal and Deandre Ayton.
With that much talent on the roster, the Suns will be expected to make it to the NBA Finals. And Devin Booker spoke about what he’s looking forward to the most about playing alongside KD and Beal next season in the same interview.
“I’d say the competition level. I’ve been a big fan of those guys for a long time, so just seeing how they operate. Iron-sharpens-iron mentality. Just keep it highly competitive between us. I know we all have a great deal of respect for each other.
“But we plan to keep pushing each other. I think that’s the domino effect, and everyone else will follow suit if they see us all getting after it.”
Devin Booker averaged a career-high 27.8 points per game, shooting 49.4% from the field and 35.1% from three-point range last season. His scoring numbers might dip a little next season, but the trio of Booker, Durant, and Beal will be impossible to guard.
Kevin Durant And Devin Booker Get Along Very Well
With two superstars of this caliber, there is always a concern that their egos might clash. But Kevin Durant and Devin Booker haven’t had any of those problems so far.
Despite the 8-year age difference between the two, Devin Booker and Kevin Durant are seemingly already great friends. Booker hilariously told Durant that they had to coordinate making a trip to Europe together.
Their bond extends to the basketball court as well, the two were spotted working out together in the Bahamas earlier this year as they prepare for a massive season.
It must be wild to become teammates with someone you loved and supported as a child, but now Devin Booker’s idol is his equal. If they can find a nice rhythm on the court, the league will be in serious trouble next season.
