  • Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, and Roger Federer attended the Laver Cup together recently
  • Dirk Nowitzki shared a picture of the three of them, referring to Roger Federer as his sports hero
  • At the same time, he made it clear that Steve Nash isn’t his sports hero, taking a shot at his former teammate and one of his best friends

Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash played together on the Dallas Mavericks for six seasons and developed a wonderful friendship. Both became NBA legends in their career and remain friends after retirement, recently attending the Laver Cup together.

They were joined by the legendary tennis champion, Roger Federer. And while sharing a picture from the iconic moment, Dirk Nowitzki took a hilarious shot at Steve Nash in his caption.

“With one of my sports heroes! And I’m not talking about the guy on the right,” Nowitzki hilariously wrote.

Roger Federer is considered by many to be the greatest tennis player of all time, although Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have certainly made their cases too. Federer, Nowitzki, and Nash are all deeply respected in the world of sports, making this an iconic photo.

Dirk Nowitzki is often seen as a nice guy, largely thanks to the reputation he cultivated with the Dallas Mavericks. But he’s known to be a menace to his friends and teammates, and it seems he couldn’t resist taking a shot at Steve Nash in this scenario.

Dirk Nowitzki Has A History Of Roasting His Teammates

Dirk Nowitzki is remembered for being a very nice guy on and off the court. In his 21 years in the NBA, he won a championship, Finals MVP, MVP, and ended up Top 10 in all-time scoring.

His success came with humility and loyalty, which is what makes people think Nowitzki isn’t a savage. But the stories of Dirk Nowitzki telling teammates in practice to learn Chinese show that he can administer some tough love too.

“Nowitzki has long set a self-deprecating tone that shows every newcomer no one is bigger than the team. He is merciless in mocking everyone and happy when people toss insults back.

“‘You should learn Chinese because you’ll be in China soon,’ is one of his favorite ways of needling someone after a bad game.”

Dirk Nowitzki was likely not saying any of this to Steve Nash, who is a two-time MVP and Hall Of Famer in his own right. But it’s relevant to remember that nobody loves a good roast like the legendary Dirk Nowitzki.

Dirk Nowitzki Trolled Steve Nash When He Missed Dirk’s Bachelor Party In 2012 Too

This incident is not the first time that Dirk Nowitzki has publicly called out one of his best friends, Steve Nash. In 2012, Nash missed Nowitzki’s bachelor party before his wedding and Dirk’s reaction was one to remember.

“I wanted to, but I couldn’t,” Nash said about the bachelor party. “They put that thing together like two weeks before they had it, and I’d already booked a trip to Hawaii months ago and I couldn’t cancel. I couldn’t swing it. I was bummed.

“I called him afterward to get all the details and was like, ‘Alright, so what happened?’ And he played it all cool and said, ‘Ah, you didn’t miss much, man.’ He’s lying. He’s definitely lying.”

Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash didn’t play their best years together, and when they were together, they couldn’t win an NBA championship. But while they didn’t get tangible rewards from that partnership, they did become friends for life.
