Every year there is always some outcry whenever the starters are revealed for the All-Star game. There are only 10 spots up for grabs, so it is inevitable that some deserving candidates will get snubbed. That was perhaps the case more so than ever before this time around, as we had 4 worthy candidates for the 3 frontcourt positions from the Eastern Conference.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum, and Joel Embiid are all having phenomenal seasons but one of them was going to make do with being a reserve and Embiid ended up being the one. Fans were outraged that Embiid missed out, and Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers called for the NBA to change the voting format.

via Sixers Wire:

“It is what it is. He clearly is a starter and I have to say I don’t—I knew they were out, but I didn’t know that because I don’t pay much attention, to be honest, but it’s the vote thing. I think the vote is flawed the way they do it. I’ve said that for 10 years, so I don’t talk about it anymore. I just think it should be the five best guys. It should be positionless. That’s what the league is. So I don’t know what’s taking our league so long to figure that out.”

We are getting to the point now where it really should be positionless, and the NBA needs to make the change. The 5 starters should be the 5 best players in the Conference, and we can expect to be in this same situation when it comes to the frontcourt in the east for the next few years if no change is made.

Nikola Jokic Believes Joel Embiid Should Have Been A Starter

Embiid and Nikola Jokic will always be linked with each other after finishing as the top 2 in the MVP race in the last 2 years. While there can be some bad blood after that, they have always shown each other a lot of respect.

Jokic is in Philadelphia with the Denver Nuggets set to take on the Sixers on Saturday, and he was asked about Embiid missing out on a spot in the starting lineup. The Serbian stated that he was surprised that Embiid didn’t make it, adding that he deserved it.
