Draymond Green Admits He Has An Alter Ego

Draymond Green gets real on his NBA alter ego.

The Draymond Green we see recording podcasts and engaging with the media is not the same Draymond we see running his mouth on the basketball court. According to the 4x champion himself, he’s got an alter-ego when he’s on the court and it’s almost like he becomes an entirely different person.

“I know I probably sound crazy talking to you like this like I got an alter ego or something, but when I’m competing on the court when I’m doing my job, that’s not the same person you’re going to deal with on a daily basis,” said Green to Howard Beck. “And I’m totally fine with that.”

It’s no secret that Draymond has been off the rails this season. He put the league on notice last year after turning on his own teammate during practice, and his antics reached another level this season when he was called for an illegal swing at rival big man Jusuf Nurkic.

The “alter ego” he speaks of is likely the source behind his relentless attitude on the court, and it’s what drives him to be the heart and soul of the Warriors.

After a series of violent outbursts, Draymond was suspended from the Warriors indefinitely and he had to issue a formal apology before he was allowed to return a few weeks later. While some are hopeful that Draymond has learned from his actions, he hasn’t shown any signs of change since returning and is back to his usual antics.

Dating back to the 2016 Finals, Green has always had trouble not crossing the line and apparently, it’s just something that kicks in whenever it’s time to compete. This trait has served him well throughout his career, but it’s also been the source of massive trouble for the Warriors. If Green cannot avoid getting into trouble on the court, it could threaten to dismantle their championship run just like it did back in 2016.

The End Of An Era For The Golden State Warriors

While Draymond likes to talk tough on the basketball court, his team hasn’t been in the best of shape since the 2022 Finals. In fact, after Green’s punch on Jordan Poole, it’s been a disaster in Golden State both inside the locker room and on the basketball court.

Last year, after winning just 11 road games all season, the Warriors experienced their most difficult stretch yet and it tested them in ways they haven’t experienced before. Somehow, they were able to make the Western Semi-Finals, but they were no match for LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and the Lakers who used their size and strength to overpower their smaller and weaker opponent.

This season, despite some trades over the summer, the Warriors continue to display inconsistency at every turn and Draymond has been a source of distraction for them with his crazy antics and out-of-control behavior.

If he doesn’t get a handle on his “alter ego” soon, it could spell the end of his Warrior tenure for good, especially if it continues to hold them back like it has been this season.
