Draymond Green recently revealed an interesting tidbit on the ‘Club 520’ podcast about how Stephen Curry holds a grudge against Indiana Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard. According to Green, this grudge dates back to Nembhard’s rookie season during the 2022-23 NBA campaign.

“If you go back to the 2022-23 season, which would be Nembhard’s rookie year. If you go back and watch the game when we played the Pacers in the Bay, Nembhard gave us hell. You hear me? Complete hell. And he was talking so crazy.”

“And Steph was guarding him. And the shots he was hitting, Steph would just turn and look like, yo, what? And so he was talking so crazy. So in turn, what you then did was, every time that guy see you now, And he at you now.”

“But y’all have a hard time with us because Steph got an issue. Warriors in four versus the Pacers. I don’t really know if there’s any way to fix the issue, except for him to stop playing basketball. Because every time he sees Nembhard, it’s over. It’s a wrap.”

The game Green referred to took place on December 5, 2022, when Andrew Nembhard put on a remarkable performance. Nembhard torched the Warriors for 31 points, 13 assists, and 8 rebounds while shooting 13-21 from the field and 5-7 from three-point range. In stark contrast, Curry struggled significantly, managing just 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists on 3-17 shooting from the field and 2-10 from beyond the arc. The Warriors ended up losing the game 112-104.

In their next matchup on December 14, 2022, Curry bounced back with a vengeance, scoring 38 points, grabbing 7 rebounds, and dishing out 7 assists while shooting 11-19 from the field and 5-10 from three-point range. Despite Curry’s heroics, the Pacers still managed to secure a 125-119 victory, thanks to Tyrese Haliburton’s 29 points, Myles Turner’s 21 points, and Benedict Mathurin’s 24 points off the bench. Nembhard had a quieter night, finishing with 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists on 4-6 shooting.

The following season in 2023-24, Curry continued to make Nembhard a personal target. On one notable occasion, Curry erupted for 42 points on 15-22 shooting, including 11-16 from three-point range, leading the Warriors to a 131-109 victory. Nembhard had a modest game with 10 points, 3 assists, and 1 rebound, but the Pacers struggled collectively.

In their other meeting last season, the Pacers managed to get the upper hand, winning 123-111. Curry still put up 25 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists, but it was not enough. Nembhard had a solid performance, contributing 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists on 7-11 shooting, including 1-2 from beyond the arc.

This brewing rivalry highlights how a single game can light a competitive fire in elite athletes. Curry’s determination to dominate Nembhard whenever they meet adds an intriguing subplot to future matchups between the Warriors and Pacers. As Green noted, every time Curry sees Nembhard, it’s a chance for him to settle the score, making their encounters must-watch events for basketball fans.
