Draymond Green Wasn’t Surprised To See The Celtics Elimination: “They Didn’t Look Ready For The Moment”

Draymond Green clearly has some negative emotions around the Celtics since last season, ripping into them after their elimination last night.

Draymond Green and the Boston Celtics don’t have the best relationship after the 2022 NBA Finals saw Green instigate and agitate the C’s on his way to a fourth championship with the Warriors.

Green had a lot to say looking at the Celtics crumble in Game 7 against the Miami Heat, criticizing the squad heavily after the loss.

“The Boston Celtics are who we thought they were. They got to the moment and they did not look like they were ready for the moment. All of a sudden, all the shots were short again. All of a sudden they looked like they couldn’t play basketball with their left hand again. All of a sudden, they looked exactly who we thought they were. Quite frankly, the first thing I said was, ‘They look like it’s Game 1 of the regular season. They look like they did in the closeout game last year.’ You start to question if that becomes your M.O. When it gets tough, what do you do? If you think back on the series, in every game that mattered for them… They actually lost, except Game 6.”

It’s hard to find umbrage with anything Green said, as he is accurately summing up what the world watched in this series. Still, if you’re on the Celtics and see this, you’re not going to be happy hearing what Dray has to say.

What’s The Problem In Boston?

After the kind of elimination that the Celtics just had to face, there will likely be changes to the team. They’ve indicated a desire to extend Jaylen Brown, despite his tough series. Jayson Tatum is also campaigning for Brown to get extended, and it seems the team and player may actually agree on a new contract that keeps him on the squad for years.

The C’s have also thrown support behind Joe Mazzulla after he was heavily criticized for his failings as a coach. Due to his age and inexperience, Boston is likely to let him pick his coaching staff this summer and hopes to have a more robust bench where Mazzulla can also defer to some more experienced assistants in certain situations.

A lot of things went wrong for Boston, so pinpointing just one thing isn’t fair. Goes to show how hard it is to keep quad harmony and competitiveness throughout a season, as the Celtics clearly couldn’t do so in this case.
