There will always be stars and superstars in the NBA, but there will be only a handful of players who have had as much impact on the NBA as LeBron James. Ever since being drafted into the league, James has been breaking records left and right.

Now, even at 37 years old, James is still playing at an elite level. But let’s take a trip down memory lane, specifically when LeBron James joined the Miami Heat to form a Big 3 with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. LeBron’s decision to join the Heat in 2010 made him the most hated basketball player in the league at the time.

But it resulted in helping him win the first two NBA Championships of his career. Bron’s years with the Heat are considered to be the true prime of his career, and a crucial reason behind it was his willingness to become better.

Dwyane Wade Reveals How The Miami Heat Helped LeBron James In Becoming A Better Player

When James joined the Heat, he was still just 25 years old. But even at that age, he had already proved his worth in the league. By then, James had given everything he had in him to help the Cleveland Cavaliers win an NBA Championship, but there was only so much a single player could do.

While LeBron was still his dominant self with the Heat, the likes of Wade, Bosh, and Ray Allen certainly took some burden off him. In return, according to Wade, James soaked up everything that he could from his teammates and evolved as a scorer.

Via Sports Illustrated:

Yes. First of all, I mean, he was young. He did seven years in Cleveland. He came in as 18 years old, right, so he’s still so young. And he came to Miami right in that time where really you think LeBron has exceeded this. You think that’s the best time you’re going to get as a professional athlete from 25 to 29. Those are the prime years. And so we were lucky to get him in his prime years. But the thing about LeBron is he’s a sponge. And so he will not allow anybody to be better than him at anything.

If Ray Allen was going to shoot afterwards, he’s going to go shoot with Ray Allen, with Ray Allen’s form. He wants to be better than everybody at everything. And so I can never get work in a post without him coming to get work in a post. You know what I mean? And so when you see a guy like that who has the body to be able to do that, and he has the energy to be able to consistently do that, you know you’re watching something special. So yeah, we definitely had him in his prime and he listened to everything and soaked everything up that we had to offer and everything he brought with him.

The willingness to always evolve is something that separates good players from great players. Even NBA legend Michael Jordan once revealed that his biggest skill was being a sponge and his willingness to learn.

James is similar in that aspect, and since leaving the Heat, he has used those skills to win two more NBA titles in his breathtaking career.
