F1 Driver Pierre Gasly Reveals How It Felt To Have A 1-On-1 Dinner With Michael Jordan: “It Was A Magical Moment”

2 Min Read

Michael Jordan is an icon across the world for his achievements as a basketball player and a billionaire businessman. MJ’s silhouette logo is iconic and commands respect from sports people worldwide. This even stretches to the world of Formula 1 racing.

During the Miami Grand Prix in May, Michael Jordan met up with F1 Driver Pierre Gasly for a dinner. Gasly is a driver for the Alpha Tauri team, the sister team to the championship-winning Red Bull Racing team. Gasly was a part of the Red Bull driver academy and is a race-winner with Alpha Tauri.

Gasly was interviewed by The Ringer, where he was asked about the dinner he had with Jordan and how he felt meeting the basketball icon in a 1-on-1 setting.

“I don’t think there’s anything I could’ve liked more than that. That was so inspiring. I had a new sponsor at the start of the year and I told him that I had a massive poster of Michael in my driving room, which I look at before I jump in the car. If this (the dinner with MJ) happened, I’d be the happiest man, and it did happen.”

“It was incredible to exchange with him his career, mentality, leadership that he had and still has. It was a magical moment.”

Gasly is a mega-talented driver who has been overperforming with the average car he has to drive in Formula 1. As there is only one driver inside the car, the mentality to stick through tough races and overcome adversity is extremely necessary. Gasly can’t learn about that mentality from anyone better than His Airness.

The driver revealed that MJ had extensive knowledge about the current Formula 1 grid and that he was a fan of the sport. Considering the fact that MJ agreed to dinner with Gasly shows that he can identify the spirit of the driver and spend his valuable time having a meal with him.
