The Golden State Warriors keep getting big news ahead of their return to the NBA Finals. After securing their spot in the biggest series of all, the Dubs now have time to relax and get ready for it. Following a 4-1 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals, Steve Kerr’s team is now waiting for their rival.

Meanwhile, they have received big updates on their roster and it seems like we’ll see a Warriors team at full strength when they face either the Boston Celtics or Miami Heat to define the 2022 NBA champion.

Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reports that Gary Payton II is expected to return to the roster during the Finals, which would be a big upgrade for the Californian squad. Payton hasn’t played since the second round of the postseason, when a hard foul by Dillon Brooks ended up giving him a fractured elbow.

It wasn’t clear if he could return this season, but now things are different. GP2 is ready to make his long-awaited return, making Dubs Nation happy while putting some pressure on their next rivals.

Just like his father, Payton is a defensive specialist, somebody the Warriors value so much, and his presence on the court will be a big advantage for them. The Finals are set to start on June 2. Depending on who wins the East, it will start in San Francisco or Miami.

This is the best news the Warriors could get after overcoming another obstacle on their way to the championship. If they wanted to win it all, having all their pieces available is a must, and Payton’s presence on defense is much needed in this series.
