Andreas Obst was a starter for Germany during their FIBA World Cup winning run, and he has now weighed in on the debate. He has claimed that Germany is the true world champion, not the NBA title-holding Denver Nuggets.

“In the NBA, they’ve always had this attitude that they’re the best at something,” Obst said. “They can call themselves whatever they want, the bottom line doesn’t change. We are the World Champions.”

If the NBA stars have an attitude that they are the best in the world, it’s because that’s where the highest level of competition is.

For example, most of the USA’s biggest superstars didn’t even participate in the FIBA World Cup, neither did Finals MVP Nikola Jokic and two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. This take from Obst was bound to lead to severe backlash from NBA fans.

NBA Fans Blasted Andreas Obst For His Take On Who The World Champions Are

This conversation about the NBA being the pinnacle of basketball has been going on for a few weeks now. Noah Lyles, an American track and field star claimed the NBA champions are not world champions because they don’t compete against the best from the rest of the world.

His take wasn’t received well by the community, and Obst’s hasn’t been taken too seriously either. Fans trolled the German on social media after it caught their attention.

Anybody know this guy?

Andreas Obst plays for Bayern Munich in Europe and is a role player. One fan ruthlessly pointed that out in response to what he had to say.

Dudes a role player who isn’t even better than the role players who played for Germany.

He’s just mad he can’t make it into the nba because only the best make it there.

Team USA was humiliated at the 2023 FIBA World Cup and stars like LeBron James are already planning to suit up for the Olympics in 2024. One fan explained why he’s not worried about what Obst has to say because of what will happen to him soon.

LeBron’s coming to dunk on you soon, don’t worry

The Denver Nuggets built a complete roster last season to win it all, and Nikola Jokic is arguably the best basketball player in the world. One fan knows what the result would be if the German team tried to take on the NBA champions.

International competition is great but if Germany played the Denver Nuggets, everyone would be reminded why the NBA champ is the world champ.

Andreas Obst played a big role in beating Team USA in the World Cup Semifinals, dropping 24 points and helping the Germans win.

But he hasn’t accomplished nearly enough outside of that, only averaging 10.4 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game in the tournament. It’s hard to take his take on the matter too seriously.

Damian Lillard Explained Why The NBA Champions Will Always Be World Champions

The NBA community can be a little self-centered from time to time, but that’s got more to do with the culture than anything else. At the end of the day, the NBA has the highest level of basketball played anywhere in the world.

Damian Lillard spoke out about this recently, explaining why NBA champions will always be the champions of the world.

“The NBA champs are world champs,” Lillard said. “I’ve been seeing everybody because they lost in the World Cup, everybody like, ‘Oh, see we told you.’ But the best players in the world play in the NBA. All the best players in that tournament play in the NBA.”

This conversation is bound to continue, but the fact remains that the NBA is the world’s most talented, athletic, and skilled league. People can say whatever they like, but ultimately, no other competition comes close to the NBA.
