You usually do not see players have arguably the best season of their career in their mid-30s, especially when they’ve been an All-Star in the past, but Brook Lopez seems to be pulling it off. The veteran big man has anchored one of the best defensive units in the NBA with his 2.6 BPG being tied with Nic Claxton for the best mark in the league.

Thanks to Lopez, the Bucks rank 3rd in the NBA in defensive rating at 109.4 and it is one of the biggest reasons they are a top 3 seed in the Eastern Conference despite ranking 25th in offensive rating at 110.7. He has been so good on defense that teammates Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jrue Holiday believe he is the Defensive Player of the Year.

“He’s a big part of who we are. Big part of why this team is so great defensively and offensively. He is playing right now at a very high level. He is just literally covering our butts on defense every single possession and he’s having a great season.

“In my opinion and probably Jrue’s, Defensive Player of the Year,” Jrue added, “100%”. Giannis went on to say “No doubt. He’s what, 34 years old? It’s insane how he’s playing right now.”

Giannis is a former Defensive Player of the year and Holiday is regarded by Luka Doncic as the best guard defender in the NBA, so it speaks to how good Lopez has been that they think he is deserving of the award.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Hilariously Called Out NBA Reporters

The season hasn’t quite gone to plan for the Bucks so far. Their offense hasn’t been great as we mentioned earlier and while they had a good start to the season, they have tailed off a bit recently. They were blown out by the Charlotte Hornets a few days back and there were only three media members attending Giannis’ press conference.

Antetokounmpo called out the reporters who didn’t come, saying that only the real ones showed up. He hilariously added that he hopes there are only these many showing up when the Bucks win the title. Despite some of their struggles, it is safe to say that not many will be betting against them winning it all.
