Point guard Damian Lillard was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks this season, and there’s no doubt that many expect him and Giannis Antetokounmpo to win a championship together. Though a lot of people expect Lillard to be the No. 2 option behind Antetokounmpo, it seems as though that might not be the case after all.

When speaking to the media recently, Antetokounmpo claimed that the Bucks are Lillard’s team.

“Winning, I’m about sacrifice. I’m about putting the work in each day… I might be here, but this is his team. It doesn’t matter what people say.”

Most people will not agree with Antetokounmpo’s statement, and perhaps this was the superstar’s way of trying to make Lillard comfortable on the squad. However, it is quite possible that Antetokounmpo will take a backseat on offense and allow Lillard to orchestrate things while focusing on defense. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the Bucks are Lillard’s team, but he might have the better numbers offensively.

During the 2022-23 regular season, Lillard averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game. There is no doubt that he’s one of the best players in his position, and it’ll be interesting to see what he can do with another superstar by his side.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Already Has Good Impressions Of Damian Lillard

It definitely seems as though Antetokounmpo and Lillard will mesh well together from a basketball standpoint. Antetokounmpo is a dominant interior force, while Lillard primarily does his damage from the perimeter. Personality fit is just as important as basketball though, and Antetokounmpo recently shared his positive first impressions of Lillard.

“He’s so quiet, doesn’t say much,” said Giannis on Lillard. “He’s like a little version of me, a guard version. Quiet, goes about his business, takes care of his family, shows up, and practices really hard. When he needs to be vocal, he’s vocal.”

Hopefully, we do see the Bucks’ duo figure things out and witness them make a deep run in the playoffs. They definitely have the talent to be highly successful this season, and we’ll see what happens in the future.

The Milwaukee Bucks Are The Clear Favorite In The Eastern Conference

It is fair to say that the Milwaukee Bucks have the most talented duo in the Eastern Conference. No other team has two superstar-level players headlining their team, and it is clear that the expectation for the Bucks should at least be a Finals appearance. They have the players to make it happen, and anything less is a failure.

This season will be Lillard’s chance to show that he can play a part on a competitive team. He has shown that he can be a superstar who can lead a franchise to the playoffs, but now it is time to win at the highest level.

The Bucks will end up a great regular season team, simply due to the talent that is on the roster right now. However, they will mostly be judged on their playoff performance, and whether they can win a championship.
