The entire detail of their feud has yet to come into the picture, but Gilbert Arenas revealed an incident when Van Gundy mocked Howard. On his own show ‘Gil’s Arena’, he talked about a fight between Howard and Van Gundy:

“I remember, this MF, Dwight got a block, boom. Somebody came down, snapped that and then he tried to throw it, they caught it, and then boom, score, timeout.”

“How come you didn’t get that other block?”

“I just got 2 blocks?”

“S***, they call you Superman? They call you Superman? This Superman name is getting to your name! The crowd out here, they out here just sucking you off.”

What Happened Between Dwight Howard And Stan Van Gundy?

The situation began when rumors started circulating that Dwight Howard had requested the Magic’s management to fire Stan Van Gundy. As the news spread, it created a highly uncomfortable atmosphere within the team, with speculation and uncertainty about the future of both Howard and Van Gundy.

In April 2012, during a press conference, Stan Van Gundy confirmed the rumors to reporters. He revealed that management had informed him that Dwight Howard had asked for him to be fired as the head coach. Van Gundy’s admission added more fuel to the already existing fire of tension and uncertainty surrounding the team.

Ultimately, the situation took a toll on the team’s performance and chemistry. The Orlando Magic faced a tough season, and they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

After the season ended, both Stan Van Gundy and Dwight Howard moved on from the Magic. Van Gundy was let go as the head coach, and Howard was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in the following offseason.
