Giannis Antetokounmpo failed to lead the Milwaukee Bucks past the Miami Heat in the first round of the 2023 NBA playoffs.

Following the huge upset, the Greek Freak also went off on a reporter who categorized the season as a failure for the Bucks. Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas recently slammed Giannis for his comments featuring Michael Jordan.

“That was a great argument for him if he was a lawyer, I’m not even gonna lie,” Arenas said on a recent episode of ‘Gil’s Arena.’ “It was amazing. It made you really believe like, ‘Yeah, you know, Giannis is right.’ But at the end of the day, you were supposed to win a championship, or you was supposed to be in that running. You were the favorite, you was in the top 3 of winning a championship. … Did you fail? Yes. If you lost [in] the first round, you f*****g failed. You lost to the eighth seed.”

Gilbert Arenas went off on Giannis for claiming that the Bucks didn’t have an unsuccessful season.

Even his head coach Mike Budenholzer believes that the Bucks had a disappointing season. But for some, Antetokounmpo cannot seem to see that.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Is Unlikely To Re-Sign With The Milwaukee Bucks

When Giannis Antetokounmpo won the 2021 NBA Championship with the Milwaukee Bucks, he was crowned as the best player in the world.

But even then, there were concerns that if the Bucks had what it would take to compete in the future. In the 2022 NBA playoffs, the Bucks were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. This season, the Bucks failed to even get past the first round.

Keeping that in mind, there are rumors that Giannis Antetokounmpo may not re-sign with the Bucks this summer. NBA analyst Brian Windhorst recently broke down Giannis’ situation.

“They were facing a very difficult situation this summer, even if they’ve won the title. Because they have guys in their 30s who need to get paid, and they have Giannis, who’s in his 20s with a contract extension situation. I think it is unlikely that Giannis will extend his contract this summer. He has two years left, with everything that’s going on with the team, and considering that there’s new ownership, that makes it very difficult. The Bucks are headed into the repeater tax. This is what happens to teams that are contenders year after year and they spent, so everything on this team is about to get more expensive.”

Giannis still has three more years left on his contract, but the Bucks wouldn’t want to risk waiting to hand him a new deal toward the end of the current deal.

After all, if Giannis decides to leave the team, the Bucks would instantly go into rebuilding mode and may end up waiting for years before becoming competitive again.
