The Miami Heat could see an end to their miracle season coming tonight as Game 5 of the NBA Finals tips off in Denver, as the Nuggets look to close this series out on their home floor with a Game 5 win.

The Heat have shocked everyone in the playoffs. It started with gentleman sweeping the best team in the NBA in the first round, followed by series wins over the Knicks and championship-favorite Celtics to make it to the Finals. Unfortunately, Jimmy Butler will only look at this season as a success if the Heat can wear championship rings at the end.

“Not at all. At the beginning of the year, we talked about winning a championship, competing to get to this point, so that’s always the goal with the Heat. It’s about winning, not individual anything. It’s about holding that trophy collectively, as a unit to be the best team. That’s where we’re at. All the odds, the eighth seed, none of that matters. It’s two really good basketball teams. One of them has to get one win, the other has to get three. Let’s hope the other can get the three.”

Overcoming a 3-1 series deficit in the NBA Finals is next to impossible, with only one team ever pulling that off. Everyone knows the story behind that 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers team, so what remains to be seen is if the Miami Heat are cut from the same cloth. At least they have Kevin Love to bring all his 3-1 Finals comeback expertise to the table.

Can Game 5 Jimmy Butler Please Stand Up?

The last time Jimmy Butler was in an NBA Finals Game 5, he almost single-handedly carried the Heat to a win against the LeBron James-led Lakers in 2020. Butler dropped a 35-point triple-double with 12 rebounds and 11 assists to respond to James’ 40 points and 13 rebounds to win the game by three points. Butler has already said he doesn’t think he can rely on that experience for a game in 2023.

Even though the Heat lost Game 6 and the Finals, it showed that the franchise was not going to make it easy on the Lakers. Hopefully, Jimmy and his teammates can tap into that mentality against the Nuggets and ensure their miracle season doesn’t end via a gentleman’s sweep at the hands of Nikola Jokic
