John Wall is a multiple-time All-Star, and at one point in time, he was considered among the best point guards in the NBA. As of right now, he is with the Los Angeles Clippers, who are considered one of the top teams in the Western Conference.
While he is currently in a good situation basketball-wise, there’s no doubt that the last few years have been tough for John Wall. Recently, John Wall admitted that he “thought about committing suicide” during the past 2-3 years. The tough situations that he had to deal with during that time included tearing his Achilles and the passing of several family members.
“I thought about committing suicide. Tearing my Achilles, my mom passing, my grandma dying a year later, in the midst of COVID. Me going to chemotherapy, sitting by my mom taking her last breaths wearing the same clothes for 3 days straight.”

“Darkest place I’ve ever been in. At one point, I thought about committing suicide. My two boys is my motivation… Looking at all this I’m like: “If I can get through this, I can get through anything in life.”
I don’t like to brag about it, because everybody goes through something. We all go through tough times, nobody got it easy. But I don’t think a lot of people can get through what I went through. To me to be back on top where I want to be, see the fans still want me to play… means a lot.
It is unfortunate that John Wall has had to deal with those mental health struggles, and there’s no doubt that a lot of people would also struggle if they were put into his situation. It is also good to see that John Wall is clearly in a better place currently. Mental health is important for everyone, including athletes, and it is great to see that John Wall was willing to open up about his own struggles in that department.
Hopefully, we see John Wall have a productive season with the Los Angeles Clippers. He averaged 20.6 PPG, 3.2 RPG, and 6.9 APG during the 2020-21 season, though he was fairly inefficient. Perhaps playing a smaller role and not having to be Batman every night on the Los Angeles Clippers will help John Wall, and he could have a fantastic year with the Clippers next season.
