Karl-Anthony Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves have a lot to be optimistic about. The big man and his co-stars have taken a big step forward this season. The Wolves made it to the first round of the playoffs and gave a good account of themselves, so the idea will be to run it back with some additional pieces next season and try to take the next step.

The health of Towns will be pivotal for this to occur and the hope is that Anthony Edwards will be able to take another leap and achieve superstar status as well. KAT played through quite a few injury issues throughout this season, and starting next year fully healthy will be paramount for the big man.

Ramona Shelburne for ESPN reported that Towns has gone through some plasma-related procedures involving getting injections to his knees, ankles, wrists, and fingers in the hope of recovering from those injuries without having to go through surgery:

“Minnesota Timberwolves star center Karl-Anthony Towns underwent stem cell treatment and platelet-rich plasma injections in both knees, his left ankle, left wrist and right finger on Friday, sources told ESPN.”

“Towns played through his injuries during the Timberwolves’ run to the Western Conference playoffs and decided to get these treatments in the offseason with the hopes of avoiding surgery and making a full recovery by training camp.”

“Towns, according to sources, was dealing with pain in both knees, especially his right knee, which he wore a sleeve on during the playoffs. He also had a cyst in his left ankle, a subluxated left wrist with ligament damage and an aggravated joint on the middle finger of his right shooting hand.”

KAT averaged 21.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game during the playoffs against the Memphis Grizzlies, and his regular-season scoring average was even better. Karl-Anthony Towns has sometimes unfairly been perceived as soft, but it’s commendable that he performed so well this season despite struggling with these many injuries. The hope is that he can return by training camp and get ready in time for next season, as the Timberwolves look incredibly promising at the moment.
