Kevin Durant has a deep respect for his peers and for all of the legends who paved the way for his amazing success in the league. Despite how it may look today, Charles Barkley was once a star like Durant, and his play through the 80s and 90s has made him a hero for the Suns franchise.

When it comes to Chuck, however, it’s no secret that he harbors a small “rivalry” with Kevin Durant, who has repeatedly taken shots at Barkley and his outlandish takes. Today, Durant actually spoke about Barkley and how he views their somewhat complicated relationship.

“We both played ball, both played in the NBA, both are ‘superstar’ caliber players. So I’m sure we can relate on a lot of things,” said Durant and Barkley. “We’ve accomplished and experienced the same things in this league. So I wouldn’t say we’re not on the same page. We may disagree on some stuff but if you watch TNT, those guys disagree every day. But we grew up as ball players and went through the journey as ball players so I would say we’re on the same page already… but I probably wouldn’t sit down with Charles,” KD continued after being asked what he’d say in a chat the NBA on TNT crew.

Durant and Chuck have had some pretty epic battles over the years, including the time when Barkley called Durant a ‘bus rider’ for his stints in Golden State and Phoenix.

But as two guys with deep ties to the Suns franchise, they both want the same thing: a championship for the city of Phoenix.

Charles Barkley Gave The Green Light For Suns To Get Durant

As a Suns legend himself, it’s no surprise people from the team sought Barkley’s advice at the peak of the Kevin Durant trade rumors, and he advocated from the beginning to make a move for the 2x Finals MVP.

“You know it’s so funny living in Phoenix, these idiots, like calling me every day saying like, ‘What do you think?’ I say, ‘What do you mean? What do I think?’ They said, ‘Well, they want a lot.’ I said, ‘Do they want Booker and Chris Paul?’ They’re like, ‘No, they don’t want them.’ I say, ‘Well, give it to ’em then!’ Chris Paul, KD and Booker? We’re good,” said Chuck.

So, at the end of the day, the beef between Durant and Barkley doesn’t go too far. They both want success for the Suns this season, and there’s no doubt Barkley will start to respect him a whole lot more if KD manages to do what he never could and bring a title to his former team.
