Kevin Garnett Is Disappointed With Anthony Davis, Says He Should Be An MVP: “You should Go For The MVP For The 2022-23 Season… It’s His Turn To Carry The Torch… He Could Be So Much Better Than He Is.”

Anthony Davis’ time with the Los Angeles Lakers has been a mixed bag so far. While his first season was arguably a Cinderella run where AD won his first-ever NBA title with the Purple and Gold, the last two seasons haven’t been the best for the big man.

Struggling through multiple injuries and missing many regular-season games, Davis could never regain the form he had shown in the 2019-20 season. While he did show glimpses of what a fit Davis is capable of in the 2021 playoffs against the Suns, another injury derailed the Lakers’ playoff campaign that season.

Last season was tougher for the 29-year-old. While the team hoped that a move for Russell Westbrook would reduce the pressure on AD and Bron, in reality, the trio never really gelled. AD, meanwhile, continued to be injury-prone, putting up disappointing numbers throughout the season. Given the season he had, many fans were quick to discredit the center and claimed that Davis wasn’t a star anymore.

Celtics legend Kevin Garnett certainly wasn’t the biggest fan of AD’s latest Lakers campaign. In a recent appearance on the KD Certified podcast, the ‘Big Ticket’ demanded that the 29-year-old should set his sights on one trophy next season, the MVP trophy.

“Bro, get lost. Go to Hawaii somewhere. When you come into camp, come in to camp better in shape than anybody and everybody. That’s what you should be focused on. You should go for the MVP for the 2022-23 season… It’s his turn to carry the torch… AD came to the Lakers to be an MVP, to take the torch from Bron… He could be so much better than he is.. He can be MVP of the league, he should be MVP of the league at least one time.”

Anthony Davis certainly has all the tools to become the top player in the league. He is great offensively and defensively and can defend 1 through 5. The biggest problem for him, though, has been his health.

If the former Pelicans superstar can manage to keep himself away from the injury bug, the duo of him and LeBron James alone could turn around this Lakers franchise as a whole. Can AD match Garnett’s expectations and lead the Lakers to a deep playoff run next season?
