On his fourth team in 10+ seasons, Kyrie Irving is hoping to find a long-term basketball home as he enters the second half of his NBA career.

So far, Irving’s track record of success isn’t the best and besides his title win with LeBron James in 2016, it lacks the sort of team success you’d expect from a player of Kyrie’s caliber.

With the Mavericks, Irving has played well so far and the vibes are good and fresh like it was in Cleveland, Boston, and Brooklyn at first. But with Irving’s contract set to expire in the summer, his lingering free agency has become a topic of concern in Texas after the Mavs gave up so much to get him.

But as Kyrie told the media this week, he wants to take the focus away from that and keep his tenure in Dallas distraction-free.

There’s a wave of cautious optimism in Dallas right now. While the product on the court has been great so far, and Irving has been saying all the right things to the media, but it’s nothing we haven’t seen before from Irving.

Lakers Still In Play For Irving After Striking Out In Deadline

The Nets were playing hardball with the Purple and Gold this season, which explains why Kyrie is a Maverick instead of a Laker. Still, there’s a strong possibility that Kyrie ends up with the Lakers anyway.

It seems though, that Tsai may have just delayed Kyrie’s move to L.A. by a few months, as The Athletic’s Joe Vardon is of the belief that Irving will be a Laker after this season. “I believe Irving will be a Laker next season,” said NBA Insider Joe Vardon.

Nobody knows what Kyrie is thinking, but it’s no secret that he seeks a long-term deal. Last summer, almost no teams were willing to make a long-term commitment to the star point guard, but that could easily change if he closes out this season strong.

In the end, only time will tell is how Irving is feeling and which way he’s leaning as far as staying or leaving the Mavericks. But we can expect Irving to follow the money, at least, which puts his future up in the air.
