  • Kyrie Irving will make at least $37,037,037 in the 2023-24 season
  • Irving could likely earn $2 Million in unlikely incentives
  • Despite being traded to the Dallas Mavericks last season, Irving’s Mavs missed the playoffs

Kyrie Irving was the talk of the NBA last season. From his drama while as a member of the Brooklyn Nets to the collapse of the Dallas Mavericks after trading for Irving, Uncle Drew stayed on everyone’s mind.

Contents
  • 2023-24 Season: $37,037,037
  • Per Game: $451,671
  • Per Quarter: $112,918
  • Per Minute: $9,410
  • Per Second: $156
  • Career Earnings: $233,046,637

One big question on everyone’s mind was, will the Dallas Mavericks bring Irving back? And if so, for how much?

Dallas did bring Irving back, and they signed him on a three-year, $126 million deal. This includes certain incentives that could reach $6 million after the three-year deal is up. Is Irving worth this much money?

I’d say so. For starters, Dallas traded away many assets to get the 2016 NBA champion. The Mavericks traded Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, a 2029 unprotected first-round draft pick, and second-round picks in 2027 and 2029 to land the controversial guard.

So, to allow Irving to walk away in free agency would not be a wise move for the franchise that won the 2011 NBA Finals. Dallas needs to pair a star next to Luka Doncic, and Irving is that star.

The former Brooklyn Net also performed well while playing next to Doncic. In the 20 games that Irving played with Dallas, he averaged 27.0 points, 6.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game.

Irving also shot 51.0% from the field and 39.2% from beyond the arc. The only problem was Dallas’ record, which was 8-12 with Irving; the Mavs went 30-32 without him.

This could have been because of chemistry issues, as Irving and Doncic are both ball-dominant players. With a full training camp heading into the 2023-24 season, I expect to see the two gel much better together.

As we get ready for the 2023-24 season and Irving gets ready to earn the first year of his three-year deal, let us take a closer look into what Uncle Drew will earn. Here is the detailed breakdown of Irving’s contract for the 2023-24 season.

2023-24 Season: $37,037,037

Kyrie Irving will earn at least $37,037,037 in the 2023-24 season. This will make him the 22nd highest-paid player in the league.

This total for Irving could go higher, though. If Irving reaches a few milestones for the 2023-24, he could potentially earn up to $2 million more on the season.

The milestones Irving will have to achieve to earn these incentives are as follows:

$1 Million Earned: If Irving plays at least 65 games.

$1 Million Earned: If Mavericks win at least 50 games.

These are both achievable milestones for Irving and his team. Even with all the drama that surrounded Irving last season, he did manage to play in 60 games. So, if he stays out of trouble, it is likely Irving will play at least 65 games.

As for the team, the Mavericks did manage to win just 38 games in the previous season. This is well short of the 50 to earn the incentive.

Still, in the 2021-22 season, Dallas won 52 games. With a full training camp, there’s a good chance the Irving-Doncic tandem can muster up 50 wins for the Mavericks in the 2023-24 season.

Let’s forget about the incentives, as they are not guaranteed. We will now focus on the money Irving will 100% earn and break it down even further.

Per Game: $451,671

Kyrie Irving’s contract looks huge for what he’ll earn. This is because it is especially to the average person.

When you dive deeper into the contract and see what Irving will make per game, it gets even wilder. If Irving plays all 82 games, which is a stretch, Irving will make $451,671 per game.

This is more than a lot of people make per year. To make it in just one basketball game is incredible. The question that has to be asked is, can Irving play all 82 games in the 2023-24 season?

Per Quarter: $112,918

When we break down Irving’s contract per quarter, we see another example of how much Irving actually makes. Irving will make $112,918 per quarter next season.

This is yet again another huge number for anyone to make, especially in just one-quarter of play. As you see, this is why people in the front office of the Brooklyn Nets were angry at Irving for missing so many games.

When a player makes this type of money, you expect him to play as much as he can. This is what the Dallas Mavericks will hope for in the 2023-24 season.

Per Minute: $9,410

Irving’s contract continues to wow us “normal folks” as the Mavs’ star will earn $9,410 per minute in the 2023-24 season. This is an insane amount of money to make in just a minute of time.

The Dallas Mavericks don’t mind paying this much to Irving if he shows up to play and helps the team get back to the NBA playoffs. Of course, if Irving can help lead the Mavs to an NBA title, Irving might see a raise in the future.

But time will tell if Irving can truly co-exist with Luka Doncic and, more importantly, stay out of trouble. Irving has shown himself to be one of the best players on the basketball court.

The problem with Irving is staying on the court, while keeping his off-court distractions at bay. The Mavs hope Irving focuses solely on basketball in the upcoming season.

Per Second: $156

Do you want to feel poor? Let’s look at how much Irving will make per second in the 2023-24 season. If Irving plays all 82 games, he’ll earn about $156 every second in the upcoming season.

I don’t know about you, but I’d take $156 every second. This is truly insane to think about. Still, when on the floor, Irving’s play is worth this type of money.

Irving has proven to be a difference-maker for an NBA team. Can he be this for the Dallas Mavericks next season?

Career Earnings: $233,046,637

After his first 12 seasons in the NBA, Kyrie Irving has made $233,046,637. After the end of the 2023-24 season, this number will jump to $270,083,674, with the potential to be $2 million higher if the two incentives are met.

By the end of Irving’s current contract, his career earnings could become $359,046,637. This isn’t a bad career earning, to say the least. Of course, after his deal is done, Irving is likely to sign another to finish his career, and that career earnings number will only soar higher.
