After playing just 24 minutes in the loss to Miami on Monday, the Lakers were hopeful that Anthony Davis would be good to go for tonight’s showdown against the Houston Rockets. But unfortunately for the Purple and Gold, Davis has been ruled out  for the game with left adductor spasms. Big man sharpshooter Christian Wood will start in his place.

Davis apparently suffered the injury against the Heat but the timetable for his return is currently unknown. Still, it’s not all bad news for the Lake Show. Just a few hours ago, the star big man said he was feeling good and that his condition was starting to improve. While he’s obviously not good enough for action tonight, it’s encouraging to see that he’s trending in the right direction.

“I feel better. Better than whenever that happened. Getting some more treatment this afternoon and we’ll make a decision from there. But it does feel better.”

Lakers Fans Are Already Fed Up With Davis

Anthony Davis cannot control his injuries, but it’s easy to understand why Lakers Nation is frustrated right now. Since winning the championship in 2020, Davis has been in and out of the lineup for years due to various injuries that have derailed his run in Los Angeles. So after finding out that Davis is already set to miss time with his fist injury of the season, fans had no problem expressing their feelings on social media.

Before the season, Davis made it a goal of his to try and play all 82 games on the Lakers’ calendar. It was always an unlikely reality for Davis, but it’s pretty wild he couldn’t last seven games.

With Davis, it’s something different every time. With a history of injuries to his legs, arms, shoulders, and back, it’s been a never-ending roller coaster for Davis and his health, and each passing season just adds more mileage to his already fragile body.

The good news is, this injury is relatively minor and Davis should be back within the next couple of games. At this point, it’s probably smart for the Lakers to be cautious with Davis given his injury history and they’ll need him healthy for the playoffs if they want to make any kind of meaningful run.

A Rocky Start For The Lakers

At 3-4 through the first two weeks, this isn’t exactly what Lakers fans had in mind when they looked ahead to the NBA season. After fighting and clawing their way to the play-in tournament last year, the Lakers were hoping to avoid the drama by starting strong and securing a top four seed right out of the gate. Of course, that hasn’t been the case so far and struggles from the supporting cast to get it going has led to some early growing pains for this group.

At 38 years old, LeBron James is basically carrying this steam in this early stretch of games and he’s racking up a concerning amount of minutes. Now, with Davis also missing time, the signs aren’t looking good for a smooth-sailing season from start to finish. But if the Lakers can stay afloat and win enough games to stay above the play-in line, it cold set them up for massive success in April, May, and June.
