In a recent episode of the “Mind The Game” podcast with JJ Redick, LeBron James shared his admiration for Kyrie Irving, dubbing him the most gifted player in NBA history. James highlighted Irving’s extraordinary skills, likening him to an unbeatable draw-four card in Uno, always ready to change the game’s outcome.

“To have a guy like Kyrie Irving as the ultimate wild card, that’s like having a draw four in your hand every time someone deals you cards in Uno… In Game 1, Western Conference Finals, Game 1.”

“You know, I think up until that point, I don’t know the stat, cause I’m not writing down the stats and I don’t call the games like you guys, but I think Kyrie was only averaging like six to eight points in the first half, like in the second round of the playoffs.”

“You know, he was getting 16 to 20 in the second half, but in the first half of games, you know, he wasn’t. And you’re like, you’re gonna have Kyrie in the fourth, but I need you sometimes in the first half too, brother.”

“But like what he did in game one, it was like at a Western Conference Finals, it was like, that was like, oh shit, I have so many words to praise Kyrie that I end up with absolutely none because it’s just, it’s so, he’s the most gifted player that NBA has ever seen.”

“He has the best gifts I’ve ever seen of any NBA player. I’ve never seen a guy in my NBA life that feels better at times shooting with his offhand than he does with this with his primary.”

“If Kyrie’s off in a game with his right hand, he will literally go exclusively to his left hand. I’ve never seen nothing like that. The shot, one thing I’m thinking the shot that he made versus Denver toward the end of the regular season on Joker. Yeah. It’s one of the most ridiculous shots I’ve ever seen in my life.” (1:39)

James emphasized that Irving’s talent is unparalleled, especially his ability to perform under pressure. Reflecting on their time together, he recalled how Irving would often score modestly in the first half of games, only to explode in the second half. This pattern was evident during their playoff runs, where Irving would save his best for the crucial moments, particularly in the Western Conference Finals.

One standout performance that underscores Irving’s talent was in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Irving exploded for 24 points in the first half and finished with 30 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, leading the Mavericks to a 1-0 series lead. This game epitomized Irving’s ability to dominate and shift the momentum when needed.

LeBron marveled at Irving’s ambidexterity, noting that he had never seen a player who could switch to his offhand with such ease and still perform at an elite level. Irving’s ability to make incredible shots, even under the tightest defenses, left James in awe. He recounted a specific instance from a regular-season game against the Denver Nuggets, where Irving made a jaw-dropping shot over Nikola Jokic, labeling it one of the most ridiculous shots he had ever witnessed.

JJ Redick echoed LeBron’s sentiments, expressing doubt that there’s a player more aesthetically pleasing to watch when in rhythm than Kyrie Irving. This season, Irving has proven his mettle once again by leading the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Finals alongside Luka Doncic. Irving’s playoff performance has been stellar, averaging 22.8 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.9 rebounds, showcasing his ability to deliver when it matters most.

Irving’s journey back to the NBA Finals, his first since 2017, is a testament to his enduring talent and determination. As the Mavericks prepare to face the Boston Celtics, Irving’s exceptional skills and playoff experience will be crucial in their quest for the championship.

LeBron’s high praise underscores the unique and remarkable nature of Kyrie Irving’s abilities, solidifying his status as one of the most gifted players the NBA has ever seen.
