LeBron James has been around for 17 years and he’s achieved a lot of things during his successful career. He has lived long enough to know how things work in the league but there is something that he can’t get used to and probably won’t, the NBA Christmas Day games.
Being the face of the league, it is normal that LeBron will be featured on Christmas Day games, one of the most important days of the league in the regular season. Bron is set to play his 15th Christmas game this year when the Lakers take on the Dallas Mavericks in 15 days. This will be his 14th consecutive game, with Kobe Bryant holding the record at 16. Back in 2010, LeBron revealed his real feelings about the NBA playing games on Christmas.
“If you ask any player in the league, we’d rather be home with our families,” James said in 2010, via ESPN. “I think the people that even set the games up would rather be home with their family during this day. It’s not just a regular holiday. It’s definitely one of those days that you wish you could wake up in the morning with the kids and open up presents.”
This is definitely a bad team for all the players that won’t be home during the holidays but that’s something that comes with this job. Christmas is a time to spend with family but sometimes, you have to be on the road, with your NBA family.
After learning that the NBA is starting on Dec. 22, LeBron also revealed his discomfort with the fact that he won’t spend the holidays the way he wanted since he was hoping for a mid-January start to the league (6:13 mark).
