LeBron James is considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time, and he is still playing at a high level. At 37 years of age, LeBron is still one of the best players in the league and is looking to add to his legacy on the court. James has often been compared to Michael Jordan across his career. But one NBA legend thinks LeBron is inching up on Michael Jordan and the legacy he holds in the NBA.
Magic Johnson spoke recently about LeBron James and the legacy he has in the NBA. Johnson noted how proud he was of LeBron as a player and a human being, especially considering what he has accomplished both on and off the court. Magic added that James is still writing his story, but his legacy is inching towards Michael Jordan’s in the NBA (0:29 onwards).
.@MagicJohnson says despite the Lakers' struggles this season, LeBron's legacy is solidified.
"The legacy is set in stone. … He's inching up there [towards Michael Jordan], but his story is still being written. …. He's a champion not only on the court but off the court." pic.twitter.com/AKqDRzrWlp

“The legacy is set in stone. I just hope that he gets another championship. I hope that he can compete. Look at what we’re talking about. He’s going to be the all-time leading scorer. He’s going to be one of the top assist men of all time. Combined points, playoff and regular season, he is number 1. Michael Jordan is here, he’s inching up there. But his story is still being written. We have to see what happens. LeBron means so much, not just to basketball, but he means more to the world because this man has done so much. And his brand is so strong. I’m happy I recruited him to the Lakers, I’m happy he has been a stand up guy, and a guy that has made the young players on our team better. He’s a champion, not only on the court but off the court.”
Magic Johnson clearly has a lot of respect for LeBron James. But he also mentioned in the same interview that James needs to accept some responsibility for how this season has gone, especially because he is the reason DeMar DeRozan didn’t join the Los Angeles Lakers this season.
Magic isn’t the only legend to speak recently about the comparisons between Michael Jordan and LeBron James. ‘Dr. J’ Julius Erving recently anointed LeBron James the GOAT over Michael Jordan. This debate will continue long after James retires from the game, but there is no denying the impact both LeBron and MJ have had on the sport.
